WATCHING The Gilded Age (1x05) Preview, Season 1 Episode 5


The exciting new period drama from HBO, the Gilded Age is in the mid of its first season, with episode 5 previewed to be aired on Monday February 21st.  It's set in New York city in the last 19th century.

The season starts in 1882 New York City, industrialist George Russell moves into an elaborate Stanford White-designed mansion with his wife Bertha and their two children, son Larry and daughter Gladys. Across the street from their residence, sisters Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook prepare for the arrival of their niece Marian, who is leaving Doylestown, Pennsylvania after learning she would only inherit $30 from her deceased father's estate. Peggy Scott, a graduate of the Institute for Colored Youth, offers assistance when Marian's purse and train ticket are both stolen. Marian reciprocates the good deed by convincing her aunts to let Peggy stay during inclement weather. Impressed with Peggy's secretarial skills, Agnes offers employment on the condition she tells her parents about the situation; Peggy agrees. Agnes' son Oscar, a closeted homosexual, and George's son Larry, a Harvard graduate, meet in Rhode Island at a party hosted by Mamie Fish, and both meet Marian upon their return to New York. Bertha attempts to break into high society by hosting a lavish party, which Marian secretly attends. No one of note arrives, prompting Bertha to vow revenge.

  • Simon Jones as Bannister, the Van Rhijns' self-aggrandizing butler who keeps the rest of the staff in check
  • Jack Gilpin as Church, the Russell family's butler, evading his past by excelling at his job
  • Cynthia Nixon as Ada Brook, Agnes' sister who is reliant upon her charity
  • Christine Baranski as Agnes van Rhijn, a proud and stubborn old money socialite, head of the Brook house

 I am Dragon is one of the most remarkable dragon fantasy movie out there.  It's a Russian low-cost production, but let that not turn you away.  It pleasantly surprised me and millions of other fans.   The cinematics were beautiful, even if there was CGI involved in parts (like when the dragon is flying) and the story combines both legend, ancient people, and their rituals as well as a bit of a fairy tale element. It has a "Beauty and the Beast" feel to it, but both richer and deeper as a story. Edward Cullin, eat your heart out because this story put out any flames the "Twilight" Saga may have sparked in my opinion. And if a girl can fall in love with a vampire and a werewolf, well... let's just say this movie is intensely more romantic without all the poor acting and long drawn out multi-movie requirement. The Nevers is an HBO science fiction series created by Joss Whedon. The series first episode premiered on April 11, 2021. The first season will consist of twelve episodes that will be split into two six-episode parts. It is targeted to be an epic science fiction drama during Victorian period, centered on a gang of women who discover they possess unusual abilities and are soon targeted by relentless enemies while they are on a world-changing mission.
